Abstract

LIMA, María Lourdes; ESCOBAR, John Fernando; MASSONE, Héctor  and  MARTINEZ, Daniel. Exploratory geospatial modeling in lowland basins: application case in the Dulce Creek basin, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Tecnol. cienc. agua [online]. 2012, vol.3, n.2, pp.51-65. ISSN 2007-2422.

This paper presents an evaluation of the techniques and processes that can be used to collect and adjust geodata and geomodeling processes for spatial hydrological modeling and hydrogeological purposes. An analysis of the available information and techniques and their influence on the obtained results was also performed. Background information used included digital elevation models derived from the SRTM sensor and from contour topographic maps (National Geographic Institute, scale 1:50 000), with TIN to Raster techniques and correction using the Arc Hydro tool and Topo to Raster. The results obtained were geospatial models of both the surface and subsurface of the Dulce Creek basin. The use of these modeling tools with modified algorithms shows their potential for developing hydrological and hydrogeological models.

Keywords : geospatial modeling; digital elevation models; geographic information systems.
