This article analyses why an engineer in informatics becomes an independent worker or choses to found a startup. Our data come from interviews and observations in many hackers’ meetups in Guadalajara, Mexico, in wich we search to know their motivations to choose independent work or venture and the sens they give to such a choice. We conclude that choosing independent work or venture is linked to processes of subjectivation of theses individuales through the search of autonomy and permanent learning facing challenges.
