This short essay is an attempt to criticize the orientation values and the repeating behaviour patterns of progressive intellectuals in Latin America. This text examines the lack of exemplariness of the intellectuals (with regard to other social classes) in the fields of ethics and political practice. The intellectuals tend to a behaviour determined by conventional values (like money, power, prestige), but they continuously produce a rhetorical routine stressing equalitarianism, although in the reality they belong to hierarchical and pyramidal structures.
