Abstract

PULIDO MEDELLIN, Martín Orlando; DIAZ ANAYA, Adriana María  and  ANDRADE BECERRA, Roy José. Association between reproductive variables and anti Neospora caninum antibodies in dairy cattle herds from a Colombian municipality. Rev. mex. de cienc. pecuarias [online]. 2017, vol.8, n.2, pp.167-174. ISSN 2448-6698.  https://doi.org/10.22319/rmcp.v8i2.4439.

The aim of this study was to determine the percentage of seropositive cows to Neospora caninum and the identification of reproductive variables related to the presence of antibodies against this protozoan. One thousand (1,000) blood samples were collected of cows from Sotaquirá, Boyacá. The samples were runned by ELISA indirect technique. A Neospora caninum seroprevalence antibodies of 45 % was determined; the reproductive variables associated were: presence of dystocia, age (3- 4 yr) and breed (Holstein), about the abortion, artificial insemination, embryonic death, return to estrus, weak calves at birth and natural breeding were not associated with the presence of specific antibodies against the protoozoo. The results of this study showed a presence of specific antibodies against to Neospora caninum in dairy cows, suggesting that the Neosporosis may have a negative impact on reproductive status of the herds.
