Abstract

BOBADILLA-SOTO, Encarnación Ernesto; ESPINOZA-ORTEGA, Angélica  and  MARTINEZ-CASTANEDA, Francisco Ernesto. Swine piglet breeding farms competitiveness and profitability. Rev. mex. de cienc. pecuarias [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.1, pp.87-92. ISSN 2448-6698.

Both profitability and competitiveness were assessed through private costs in 1,249 litters at weaning in piglet breeding farms in the Mexican Highlands between July 2010 and June 2011. Strata were characterized in accordance with number of sows in farms, I) 5 to 10 (n=8); II) 11 to 49 (n=10); III) 50 to 100 (n=4). Data were analyzed by means of Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM). All strata showed both profitability and competitiveness due to positive net private earning average, Stratum I=35, Stratum II=157 and Stratum III=168. Profitability rates were 6, 35 and 39 % for strata I, II and III, respectively.

Keywords : PAM; piglets; Private Cost; Profitability rate.
