Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine on the yield of four wheat varieties the effects of four tillage and two planting methods, three nitrogen rates and two irrigation schedules. The research was carried out during the winter cycles of 2004-2005, 2005-2006 and 2006-2007. We assessed four tillage methods: fallow-harrow, tillage-cero, multiplough-harrow and harrow; two planting methods: flat bed and raised bed; two irrigation schedules; four and three irrigations; three nitrogen rates: 120, 160 and 240 kg ha-1, and four genotypes: two bread wheat Barcenas S2002 and line V-56 and two durum wheat Gema C2004 and Topacio C97. The analysis of variance in the four tillage methods did not detect differences in yield on the main factors years and planting methods. In the fallow-harrow system, planting methods interacted with nitrogen rate. The number of irrigations affected grain yield in the tillage methods: fallow-harrow, harrow and multiplough-harrow in which the highest yield was obtained with four irrigations. The average yield of Barcenas S2002 and V-56 was higher than the durum wheat varieties under tillage-cero method but not in the others methods. The genotype Gema C2004 showed the highest yield in fallow-harrow method; Barcenas S2002 and V-56 in tillage-cero and Barcenas S2002 and Gema C2004 in the harrow method. A major availability of moisture increased the efficiency in the exploitation of N and yield.
