Abstract

HERNANDEZ ARIAS, Pablo  and  CAMARENA GOMEZ, Beatriz Olivia. The environmental performance of the private urban mobility system from the eco-integrator approach. Nova scientia [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.24.  Epub July 02, 2020. ISSN 2007-0705.  https://doi.org/10.21640/ns.v12i24.2359.

Introduction:

To evaluate the environmental functioning of a system or process refers to the concept environmental performance, understood as a tool that, through indicators alluding to internal processes of the system under/in observation, provides information to determine its status.

Method:

The interest of this article, is to evaluate the environmental performance of the private urban mobility system (PUMS), in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, during the period from 2005 to 2015 through the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) made up of three environmental condition indicators (ECI’s): energetic, economic and ecological. For the analysis the eco-integrator approach that emanates from the ecological economy is retaken.

Results:

The results showed an Environmental Performance Index with negative variation despite the decreasing behavior of the energy consumption, carbon emissions into the atmosphere and the economic index.

Discussion or Conclusion:

It is concluded that have been some exogenous variables, as contextual and high impact on energy variables which determined the negative behavior of the Environmental Performance Index.

Keywords : environmental performance; ecological economy; eco-integrator approach; private urban mobility system; energy cost; exogenous variables; emissions; carbon; atmosphere.
