CRUZ ESTRADA, Isaac  and  MIRANDA ZAVALA, Ana María. ICT in University Students of Tourism at Universidad Autónoma De Baja California, Mexico. El periplo sustentable [online]. 2017, n.33, pp.528-563. ISSN 1870-9036.

The constant evolution of ICTs today are a challenge for universities, because due to its rate of change it may exhibit difficulties to adapt and cater to students the proper use of electronic devices and understanding of the Internet. Thus, a descriptive study was conducted to characterize the way that university students in tourism are using technologies and lead to identify the elements that the academic institution has to work with, in its role of contributing to adapting the necessary elements making it possible to exploit the benefits of electronic media that are present in the environment of the university students. 138 surveys from 215 students of Tourism Management School at the Faculty of Tourism and Marketing at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California were applied, considering 95% confidence level and 5% admitted error. The results’ highlight is that the students are frequently using mobile devices to take notes in class, thus more than 80% mention having a good management of the Internet and social networks, it is also very common to use instant messaging to communicate. However, using the Internet to search for information through virtual libraries does not have a positive result, which leads to the academic unit to train students in this and other aspects for the benefit of the use of digital media, which in turn leads to adapt to the virtual mode that can meet current needs in higher education.
