Abstract
LORIA, Eduardo Gilberto; SANCHEZ, Fernando and SALAS, Emmanuel. Effect of international tourist arrivals over unemployment and economic growth in Mexico, 2000.2-2015.2. El periplo sustentable [online]. 2017, n.32, 00006. ISSN 1870-9036.
Tourism is a very important sector for the Mexican economy since its great capacity to generate jobs. Specifically, it can improve the overall economic growth through the expenditure of international visitors and being an important source of foreign currency. In this paper, through a Structural Vector Autoregressive Model (SVAR) -corroborated by a Bayesian VAR model- inspired by the first difference Okun's Law (1962) model, we proved the positive effect on the economic growth of the sector by the international visitor’s impulse and the overall unemployment reduction in Mexico for the period 2000.2-2015.2.
