Resumen

SAHUI MALDONADO, Alejandro. Verdad y política en Hannah Arendt. En-clav. pen [online]. 2012, vol.6, n.11, pp.81-98. ISSN 2594-1100.

Hannah Arendt was suspicious of the role of truth in politics because she believed that public space was the scene of action, which in his mind is free, spontaneous and contingent. These characters, she thought, are opposed to the attributes of objectivity, stability and necessity, involved in the idea of truth. For this reason, Arendt believed that opinion must replace truth, because it reflects social plurality. However, her studies about totalitarianism show that such regimes destroy data and reliable records to distort reality and weaken the bases for public criticism. This essay attempts to demonstrate the positive role of truth for democratic politics.

Palabras llave : Arendt; public sphere; truth; opinion; democracy.
