Ernst Bloch's 125th birthday and a recent re-edition of his main work Principle of Hope are both good reasons to offer a brief introduction to this last century important philosopher's work. This article will frst present his main ideas in his biographic, intellectual and socio historical context to later introduce the concept of anticipatory consciousness as Bloch's theory central guideline. The final part of this essay is dedicated to this "philosopher of utopia" influence and continuity.
