Abstract

The goal of this paper is to analyze the media representations regarding migrant smuggling in the journalistic discourses and reporting regarding irregular migration from Mexico. Based on 281 texts on Central American migration in the El Universal and Reforma news organizations, it examines the media representations of smuggling generally and in the context of the migratory crisis of 2014, taking into account the intertextuality of the journalistic discourses and the way in which journalism is practiced.
