Abstract

LOREDO VARELA, Juan Luis  and  ESCUDERO HERNANDEZ, Leonardo. Presence of the Virginia Rail (Rallus limicola) at the Ramsar Site Río San Pedro-Meoqui, Chihuahua, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.2, e620.  Epub Oct 24, 2022. ISSN 1870-7459.  https://doi.org/10.28947/hrmo.2021.22.2.568.

We report the first record of the Virginia Rail (Rallus limicola) at the Ramsar Site Río San Pedro-Meoqui, Chihuahua. Sightings were made in the month of January 2021 during systematic surveys of avifauna at the wetland. Additionally, we searched for records of the Virginia Rail using the platforms Naturalista and eBird, which showed that there were only four records with photographic evidence in the State of Chihuahua. This species is classified as Threatened by Mexican law, confirming the relevance of this wetland to sustain at risk species.
