Abstract

MOLINA, David; VILLAR-RODRIGUEZ, Carlos  and  VILLAGOMEZ, Stefanny. First nesting record of Limpkin (Aramus guarauna) in the state of Nayarit, México. Huitzil [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.1, pp.118-122. ISSN 1870-7459.

We recorded the nesting of Limpkin (Aramus guarauna) in a suburban wetland in the Parque Ecológico de Tepic (Nayarit, Mexico). Our nesting records from 2012 to 2016, demonstrates their breeding permanence on the site. These are the first nesting record for the state of Nayarit and identify the northward extension of the breeding range of this species. The Limpkin breeding residence in this wetland is likely due to the presence of a local population of apple snail (Pomacea) and, apparently, to the absence of natural predators and competitors in the site.

Keywords : Pomacea; colonization; Aramidae; urban wetland.
