Abstract

MONROY-OJEDA, Alan  and  PEDRAZA-RUIZ, Roberto. The Stygian Owl (Asio stygius), new species record for the avifauna of the state of Queretaro, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2015, vol.16, n.2, pp.70-73. ISSN 1870-7459.

We report the first record of the Stygian Owl (Asio stygius) for the state of Queretaro. The observation corresponds to an individual that was shot and seized in the Landa de Matamoros municipality, in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve. This record reinforces the hypothesis of an extended distribution of A. stygius throughout the northern part of the Sierra Madre Oriental.

Keywords : neotropical strigid; illegal hunting; Jalpan de Serra.
