Abstract

HEREDIA, Abril; ORTEGA-ALVAREZ, Rubén; CALDERON-PARRA, Rafael  and  RODRIGUEZ-CONTRERAS, Vicente. First record of the Black-throated Blue Warbler (Setophaga caerulescens) in Mexico City, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2015, vol.16, n.2, pp.66-69. ISSN 1870-7459.

Species records in new localities enhance the knowledge of their life histories, particularly in relation to their geographic distributions. The Black-throated Blue Warbler (Setophaga caerulescens) is a long-distance migrant whose wintering grounds are located mainly in the Caribbean Region. In Mexico, records for the Black-throated Blue Warbler are scarce in most parts of the country. In March 2014 we recorded a single male S. caerulescens in a park located in the southern portion of Mexico City. This observation represents the first record in Mexico City and adds to our knowledge of this species' geographic distribution during its winter migration.

Keywords : new record; migration; geographic distribution; wintering grounds; urban parks; Mexico City; Dendroica caerulescens.
