Abstract

MARQUEZ-LUNA, Ubaldo; ORTEGA-PIMIENTA, Joel F.  and  ORTIZ-PULIDO, Raúl. Report of a White-eared Hummingbird (Hylocharis leucotis) affected by avian keratin disorder. Huitzil [online]. 2015, vol.16, n.2, pp.59-61. ISSN 1870-7459.

Avian keratin disorder produces an abnormal beak growth. This disorder has been reported in several bird species in America and Europe, but there are no reports in hummingbirds. Here we report a White-eared Hummingbird affected by this disorder, which was captured in San Bernardino Lagunas, Vicente Guerrero, Puebla. It is possible that hummingbirds affected by this this disorder negatively affect feeding and pollination.

Keywords : Avian disease; beak deformities; beak; pollination.
