Abstract

MUCINO-MARTINEZ, Pedro Luis et al. Observation of the Surfbird, Aphriza virgata, in the Tamaulipas coast, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.1, pp.68-70. ISSN 1870-7459.

The Surfbird, Aphriza virgata, is a species of the American Pacific coast and no records had been gathered on the Mexican Atlantic coast. There are recent reports of its presence in the coast of Texas, USA, and in this work we report the first sighting of the species in the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico. The lack of a sufficient observational effort in the Mexican Atlantic coast could have resulted in the species not been previously detected. This sighting is the first documented record of the species in the Atlantic coast of Mexico.
