Abstract

SANCHEZ SOTO, Saúl. Current list of birds of the Chontalpa Ecological Park, Tabasco, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.2, pp.173-180. ISSN 1870-7459.

The Chontalpa Ecological Park contains one of the two last remnants of canacoite forest (Bravaisia integerrima) in Mexico. It covers an area of 277 ha and is located in western Tabasco (17°59'05" to 17°59'51"N, 93°34'13" to 93°35'33"W). In this paper, I present an updated list of 124 bird species recorded in the park of which, 23 are included in the Mexican list of species at risk. This study is relevant because it stresses the importance of the park as an area for bird conservation in the Chontalpa region, Tabasco.

Keywords : southeastern Mexico; natural protected area; avifauna.
