Abstract

ALVAREZ-JARA, Margarito et al. First records of Calocitta colliei for the state of Michoacan, Mexico, the most southeastern location for the species distribution. Huitzil [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.2, pp.91-94. ISSN 1870-7459.

We report the first locality in the state of Michoacan with presence of Black-throated Magpie-Jay (Calocitta colliei). We obtained four independent records of 11 individuals from 2006 to 2010, from November to May. We gathered these records by point counts at the interior of a tropical ravine located within the state park "Chorros del Varal", in the municipalities of Los Reyes and Peribán, an area covered by tropical semi-deciduous forest and tropical deciduous forest, the former being where three of the four records where obtained. These records expand the known distribution of C. colliei in approximately 130 km to the southeast. These records also increase the bird species richness to 548 in the state of Michoacan and to 7 Corvidae species.

Keywords : Corvidae; distribution; new record; Black throated Magpie-Jay.
