Abstract

ALMAZAN-NUNEZ, R. Carlos  and  HINTERHOLZER-RODRIGUEZ, América. Seasonal dinamics of the avifauna in an urban park in Puebla City, Mexico. Huitzil [online]. 2010, vol.11, n.1, pp.26-32. ISSN 1870-7459.

We present the bird temporal variation in the Laguna de San Baltazar, an urban area located in southern Puebla City. From February to December 2008 we carried out bird census in transects for visual and aural detections. We recorded a total of 46 species and 1,308 individuals. Bird species richness, abundance and diversity changed seasonally (ANOVA, P < 0.05). The greatest species richness and abundance were observed during the period autumn-winter, showing the importance of migratory species. The increase of ornithological studies in urban and suburban areas may be particularly useful for urban managers to design parks where not only social services are to be enhanced, but also their natural values.

Keywords : birds; urban areas; species richness; conservation; Laguna de San Baltazar.
