Abstract

SALVADOR IBARRA, Ibzan Jahzeel; PIZANA DAVILA, Alejandro; ALVA ARROYO, Nancy Verónica  and  HUERTA ESCOBAR, María Guadalupe. Q fever as part of the management of fever of unknown origin. Acta méd. Grupo Ángeles [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.4, pp.350-352.  Epub May 26, 2023. ISSN 1870-7203.  https://doi.org/10.35366/107121.

Q fever is an infectious disease, first described by Derrick. In 1999, Q fever became a notifiable disease in the United States (US), due to its potential as an agent of bioterrorism. The incidence is believed to be higher, however, there are no specific data to conclude this, designating it as an underdiagnosed pathology. The most common clinical presentation ranges from asymptomatic, persistent fever, asthenia, adynamia, to severe pneumonia and hepatitis. The best available diagnostic method is indirect immunofluorescence (IFA) for the detection of antibody titers. Specific treatment is an antibiotic from the tetracycline group; doxycycline is preferred and should be started promptly and appropriately on suspicion.

Keywords : Q fever; Coxiella burnetii; aerosols; indirect immunofluorescia; doxycycline.
