Abstract

LIGORRED PERRAMON, Josep. The Strategies of Archaeological Heritage Management in Mexico: A look from the Yucatan Peninsula. Península [online]. 2019, vol.14, n.2, pp.99-119.  Epub Nov 29, 2019. ISSN 1870-5766.

We will observe a series of phenomena related to the coordination between the public entities that should be responsible for the patrimony, and the valuation and use made of them by these agents and the citizens in general.

The historic centers are the reason for tourists visiting communities, activity that generates revenue which then stimulates the local economy. The impulse of tourism based on the value of culture, raises the need to establish comprehensive management mechanisms.

We will outline some schemes for a paradigm shift in the current segmented management of archaeological heritage, and move from a centralized management to a transversal management that overcomes obstacles of participation and that is shared by the different agents and actors, through public policies involving authorities and academia, generating synergies to boost the processes of local and regional appropriation.

Keywords : Archaeological heritage; management; historical centers; tourism.
