Abstract

CASTRO-GRANADOS, Mauricio Alejandro; MEDINA-ALMEIDA, Carmen  and  GLASSERMAN MORALES, Leonardo David. Strengthening teaching competence for addressing cyberbullying in a Colombian public junior high school. CPU-e. Rev. Investig. Educ [online]. 2017, n.24, pp.199-223. ISSN 1870-5308.

The general objective of the study was to analyze the teaching skills that can be strengthened for handling cyberbullying cases, occurring among students of a Colombian public school. The methodology comprised a mixed study and a non-probabilistic sample consisted of 21 teachers and 62 students. In the first qualitative stage, the teachers and the coexistence coordinator (directive) were interviewed. In addition, it was designed and implemented a teacher training course in Moodle on key aspects for the management of cyberbullying. After the course (quantitative phase), surveys were applied to teachers and students. Finally, it was concluded that teachers need to strengthen communication skills, interpersonal skills, use of ICT and conflict resolution, in order to generate strategies to handle and prevent cyberbullying. Those actions must involve parents and school managers.
