Abstract

This article analyzes the formation and the products of a virtual community of practice that aims to improve the quality of instruction of mathematics teachers who teach math in first grade of junior high public schools in the State of Jalisco. The virtual community of practice used Moodle platform for teachers to share a weekly description of what they did in the classroom and to interact in a forum in which they analyzed various aspects of their practice. The corpus of analysis was the content of 35 forums during the school year 2012-2013. The method of analysis was qualitative and was used to describe the creation of the community, some of the difficulties in its implementation, the way teachers interacted with each other, what they learned and the evaluation they made of this type of in-service teacher´s education.
