this article aims to discuss the diplomatic protection of citizen abroad, taking into account the historical development of diplomacy and the diplomatic law, the doctrinal contributions, especially Emer de Vattel, as well as the current international decisions on protection of citizen abroad. Finally, we will show the major changes relating to the issue, especially regarding the need to adjust the traditional concept of diplomatic protection to the reality of the postmodern world.
