Objective: to characterize and to differentiate three types of social actors in Mexico who transfer international migrants: pollero, coyote, and smuggler. Methodology: the revision of articles in academic journals specialized in migration in order to explicit what is known about these actors, and interviews to migrants, smugglers, and humanitarian shelters staff. Results: differences and common elements were found between them. Value: the distinction found in this research can help to design public policies related to the strengthening of social networks due it distinguishes the merging social agents and those that respond to other types of logics and interests. Conclusion: there are different and distinguishable social actors due to two central categories: social cohesion and market logic.
