Abstract

LUTZ LEY, Arturo. The Migratory Experience in the Process of Labor Insertion in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area. Región y sociedad [online]. 2022, vol.34, e1526.  Epub Apr 08, 2022. ISSN 2448-4849.  https://doi.org/10.22198/rys2022/34/1526.

Objective:

to explore how the capitals (human, social, economic, and cultural) acquired during the migratory experience in United States, influence the returnees’ process of job placement in the Guadalajara metropolitan area.

Methodology:

data analysis and collecting qualitative technics were used.

Results:

findings indicate that returnees got at least one capital form, but the job market limits its use and force the migrants to switch to other strategies and even to change their labor branch.

Limitations:

a more detailed review from a generational and life cycle perspective and taking into account the returnee’s age could help to understand the insertion process.

Value:

migrant insertion in the Guadalajara metropolitan area is analyzed considering the migrants’ profile diversity and the urban environment.

Conclusions:

the low wages in Mexico influence labor insertion strategies, and social capital is important for returnees.

Keywords : return migration and insertion; migratory experience; capitals; urban context; insertion strategies; Guadalajara.
