Abstract

MORA ARELLANO, Felipe; REGUERA TORRES, María Elena  and  CALVARIO PARRA, José Eduardo. Muertes de mujeres y violencia social en tres entidades de la frontera norte de México. Región y sociedad [online]. 2014, vol.26, n.especial4, pp.45-76. ISSN 2448-4849.

The deaths of women with presumption of homicide in Mexico grew substantially from 2007, when the federal government declared war on drug trafficking. In the states of Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas, where military operatives took place, presumed female homicides increased without any convincing explanation to date, only approximations. The purpose of this paper is to describe certain elements of the socio-economic context surrounding female deaths with presumption of homicide at the state and city levels, as well as characterize the geographic areas where the deaths occurred, against a backdrop of social violence.

Keywords : Female deaths; repeater municipalities; social violence; Chihuahua; Nuevo Leon; Tamaulipas.
