Abstract

MAIER, Elizabeth. Discursos, actores y estrategias en la disputa por el significado de la vida y los derechos reproductivos. Región y sociedad [online]. 2010, vol.22, n.49, pp.201-238. ISSN 2448-4849.

This article examines local examples from Baja California within the framework of the contemporary dispute for cultural significance that positions women's bodies, sexuality, reproduction and family at the core of contention. Focusing on the historical case of Paulina and the recent process of constitutional reform that legalized the right to life from the moment of conception, the article identifies the contents of competing discourses, reviews the contexts in which they were produced, examines the process of consolidation of rival social actors, and looks at their respective strategies at certain points in time. By analyzing local issues, this text hopes to broaden our understating of the dynamics of a discursive dispute that is becoming one of the major ideological conflicts of the 21st century.

Keywords : discursive dispute; women's rights; rights of potential life.
