Abstract

MANRIQUEZ DURAN, Miguel  and  CASTRO SILVA, Tonatiuh. Globalización y diversidad cultural en el Sonora contemporáneo: Variaciones sobre región, etnia y lenguaje. Región y sociedad [online]. 2007, vol.19, n.spe, pp.219-235. ISSN 2448-4849.

Globalization is a dynamics process with multiple determinations and effects. One of these effects touches upon culture, seen as a process of reproduction, restructuring and overdetermination of differences, not represent a suppression of them. If culture is indeed an intersubjective set of guidelines for social construction and deconstruction, in order to understand local phenomena, it is important to reflect on the construction of a concept of regional culture. In Sonora there are many, some of which are based on ethnicity, that is, they are the result of concurrent biological and cultural matrixes, and others which have assumed differentiated identities with unique and distinguishing cultural features. The analysis of the relation between globalization and regional cultures allows the detection of a double direction: the inclusion of these cultures in the global process and their exclusion in certain aspects as well..

Keywords : globalization; culture; ethnic group; identity; region; regional culture; language.
