Abstract

POOM MEDINA, Juan. Las elecciones locales en Sonora, 1997-2006: Los alcances de la competitividad electoral. Región y sociedad [online]. 2007, vol.19, n.spe, pp.5-25. ISSN 2448-4849.

Electoral results in Sonora over the last ten years help support the argument that local elections are competitive. This means that the margin of victory between the winning party and its closest competitor is narrower, suggesting the existence of a different electoral panorama compared to previous periods. Furthermore, this scenario of close elections could be considered a factor that influences the pursuit of improvements in local public management and the construction of efficient political institutions in the state.

Keywords : elections; electoral competitiveness; margin of victory; alternance; divided government; electoral reforms.
