Abstract

LARA RIVERO, Arturo A.; GARCIA GARNICA, Alejandro  and  TRUJANO, Gerardo. El cluster automotriz en el Estado de México: Retos y oportunidades. Región y sociedad [online]. 2004, vol.16, n.31, pp.83-117. ISSN 2448-4849.

This paper describes and analyzes how some companies of the autopart industry located in the Toluca-Lerma area (Estado de México) are replacing nonsynthetic materials -mainly manufactured from iron and steel- with synthetic inputs -plastics, polymers, and fibers- in their production processes. Evidence shows that in this region there are conditions for forming a cluster of the autopart and plastic industry companies. However, this process has been slowing down by the poor technological and production interaction at an inter-company level.

Keywords : autoparts; automotive; cluster; industry; Lerma; plastics; Toluca.
