Abstract
FAVILA TELLO, Antonio and ZAMORA TORRES, América Ivonne. Current Challenges for Chinese Investment in Infrastructure in Mexico: Towards a Possible Incorporation to the Belt and Silk Road Initiative. CONfines relacion. internaci. ciencia política [online]. 2020, vol.16, n.30, pp.11-32. Epub Jan 22, 2024. ISSN 1870-3569. https://doi.org/10.46530/cf.vi30/cnfns.n30.p.11-32.
The Belt and Road Initiative aims to make historic investments in infrastructure in various countries around the world. In this scenario, it is worth asking whether Mexico has the necessary preconditions to join this initiative, and reflect on those factors that may be obstacles to it. With this objective, the topic is approached from a qualitative perspective by systematizing information from expert opinions, journalistic notes and academic articles. The results suggest the incidence of the following obstacles: the incipience of business relations between Mexico and China, the difficulty in addressing key channels, institutional weaknesses, the existence of political risks, social risks, and disparities in the capacities of the invested resources.
