Abstract

HERNANDEZ RAMIREZ, Angélica. A political participation alternative: PRD's citizen networks in Nuevo Leon. CONfines relacion. internaci. ciencia política [online]. 2008, vol.4, n.8, pp.81-95. ISSN 1870-3569.

During the 2006 Mexican electoral process, the participation of citizen networks in the presidential campaign of Andres Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and their great capacity to mobilize in favor of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) were greatly discussed. What seemed like a simple social arrangement of citizen networks, turned out to be of vital importance for the party's subsistence. This document goes through the gestation process of PRD citizen networks in Monterrey and establishes the function they have as the reconstruction device of the party's social base. It also studies briefly the phenomenon of incorporation of the citizen networks model to the public structure in an evident process of institutionalization, which allows establishing the general conditions for the relationship between citizen networks and the government of Nuevo Leon.

Keywords : citizen networks; political parties; PRD; AMLO; relationship between citizen networks and government.
