Abstract

MARTINEZ-ROMERO, Aitor et al. Contribution to the knowledge of the Cynipini species (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae) in the Mexican states. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2022, vol.93, e933998.  Epub Jan 20, 2023. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ib.20078706e.2022.93.3998.

The current knowledge of the taxonomy of oak gall wasps (Cynipini) in Mexico is summarized. All references to the species described from Mexico are exposed, as well as all subsequent mentions of species by different authors and new data from the study of galls belonging to sporadic collections carried out in the last 10 years. This knowledge has been organized in the form of a state-by-state catalogue. A total of 205 species are accounted for 24 of the 30 Mexican states that have oaks, some of them are cited for the first time in some states accounting for 161 new records for a total of 16 states. For each species, host and distribution data are provided, including the author’s work mentioning the species, the reference page, and the collection site. Of the 21 genera of oak gall wasps present in Mexico, Andricus Hartig is the most widely distributed, with 37 species. Mexico City and Zacatecas are the territories with the most cited species, 48 and 40, respectively. Regarding the hosts, all of them belong to the genus Quercus, with 66 species divided into 4 sections: Quercus, Lobatae, Protobalanus and Virentes.

Keywords : Galls; Cynipids; Oaks; Quercus; Distribution; Mexico.
