Abstract

PEREZ-SILVA, Mauricio et al. Illustrated keys for the identification of genera and species of the tribe Xyleborini (Curculionidae: Scolytinae) from Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2021, vol.92, e923817.  Epub Feb 03, 2022. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ib.20078706e.2021.92.3817.

The tribe Xyleborini (Curculionidae: Scolytinae) is an important group of ambrosia beetles. In recent years, it has generated considerable interest around the world due to the economic importance of some of its species. In the case of Mexico, there is a need to develop relevant tools for their correct identification. Here we provide a series of illustrated keys for females of genera and species of the tribe Xyleborini present in Mexico. We include keys for females of 9 genera and 56 species of Xyleborini, as well as a brief diagnosis, current distribution in the Mexican states and a photographic guide with the most important characters of each species. Twenty species of the genus Xyleborus Eichhoff are included, with X. torquatus Eichhoff and X. vagabundus Schedl considered as distinct species from X. volvulus (Fabricius). Xyleborus discretus Eggers is transferred to the genus Euwallacea Hopkins.

Keywords : Ambrosia beetles; Identification; Xyleborus; Euwallacea.
