Abstract
GONZALEZ, Christian R. and RAMIREZ, Francisco. A new species of Coquena (Diptera: Acroceridae) from central Chile with a key to the Chilean Panopinae genera. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2021, vol.92, e923640. Epub Nov 29, 2021. ISSN 2007-8706. https://doi.org/10.22201/ib.20078706e.2021.92.3640.
With over 10 recognized genera, Panopinae is the most diverse subfamily within the family Acroceridae in the Neotropical region. In Chile, it is represented by 18 species grouped in 3 genera, Archipialea Schlinger, Arrhynchus Philippi and Lasia Wiedemann. In this study we report the genus Coquena Schlinger for the first time for the Chilean territory, and describe Coquena coquimbensis sp. nov. This new species can be distinguished from the only previously known species of the genus, C. stangei Schlinger, based on of the position of the antenna, length of the flagellum and by color differences on the ocular, thoracic and ocellar triangle pilosity. A key to the Chilean genera of Panopinae is provided.
