Abstract

TOVAR-HERNANDEZ, María Ana; SALAZAR-SILVA, Patricia  and  LEON-GONZALEZ, Jesús Ángel de. Commented list of polychaete worms in La Paz Bay, Baja California Sur, Mexico (Annelida: Polychaeta) and new records. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2019, vol.90, e902764.  Epub Feb 12, 2019. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ib.20078706e.2019.90.2764.

La Paz Bay (Gulf of California) is a priority site for their conservation. Having a contribution that documents its biodiversity is an imperative necessity. The purpose of this contribution is to provide an update inventory of polychaete annelids to La Paz Bay, taxonomically and geographically validated. A search and compilation of literature existing until 2019 about polychaete records was conducted and new records are included. In La Paz Bay, 37 families, 156 genera and 287 species have been recorded. Acrocirrus incisa Kudenov, 1975, Parasabella pallida Moore, 1923, Pseudopotamilla socialisHartman, 1944, and Serpula sp., are new records. Sabellidae (25 spp.), Syllidae (23 spp.), Serpulidae (22 spp.), Nereididae (22 spp.), Polynoidae (18 spp.), Capitellidae (17 spp.) and Eunicidae (16 spp.) have the highest number of species recorded in La Paz Bay, which together constitutes 49.8% of the total records. Twenty species of polychaete were described originally in La Paz Bay as type locality; however, only 17 of these are currently valid. Five species of introduced worms in La Paz Bay have been recorded: Branchiomma bairdi (McIntosh, 1885), Ficopomatus miamiensis (Treadwell, 1934), Hydroides diramphus (Mörch, 1863), H. elegans (Haswell, 1883) and H. sanctaecrucis Krøyer in Mörch, 1863.
