Abstract
GARCIA-VILLAFUERTE, Miguel Ángel. Metagonia esquincacanoi sp. nov.: the first fossil record of the family Pholcidae (Arachnida: Araneae) in Chiapas amber, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2019, vol.90, e902927. Epub Mar 04, 2019. ISSN 2007-8706. https://doi.org/10.22201/ib.20078706e.2019.90.2927.
To contribute to the knowledge of the fossil spiderfauna from Mexican amber, the spider family Pholcidae is included, for the first time, through the description of Metagonia esquincacanoi sp. nov., found in a piece of amber from the municipality of Simojovel de Allende, Chiapas, Mexico. The new species is described through a single specimen, an adult male, perfectly well preserved in the fossilized resin. This is the oldest recorded fossil of Metagonia and it extends the known geological range of the genus in 22.8 My, in the Early Miocene.
