Abstract

GUADARRAMA, Patricia; SALINAS-PEBA, Luis; CHIAPPA-CARRARA, Xavier  and  RAMOS-ZAPATA, José Alberto. Floristic, composition and structure of vegetation communities of eastern portion of the State Reserve Ciénegas y Manglares de la Costa Norte de Yucatán. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2018, vol.89, n.3, pp.784-805. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ib.20078706e.2018.3.1746.

The State Reserve Ciénegas y Manglares de la Costa Norte de Yucatán was decreed in 2010; however, there are no studies on the vegetation taxonomic composition that is the most important characteristic of plant communities. The present work was aimed to generate a floristic list as well as to recognize the different plant communities and association types, including the analysis of the structure and composition. We registered 198 species, 170 genera and 61 families; the higher number of species was found in the plant family Fabaceae, followed by Cyperaceae, Asteraceae and Malvaceae. Six species are listed as threatened and 1 as protected. Eigth species are endemic to the biotic province of Yucatán Penninsula. We identified 4 vegetation types (coastal dune shrubs, mangrove, petén, and tropical low flooding forest) and 2 plant associations (“tasistal”: 3 species and “tifal”: 1 species). These results show the plant species richness and the diversity of vegetation types on the RECMY, and they may be considered to promote the conservation program of the reserve.

Keywords : Coastal dune shrubs; Mangrove; Petén; Tropical low flooding forest; Tasistal; Tifal.
