Abstract

CHARRE-MEDELLIN, Juan F.; MONTERRUBIO-RICO, Tiberio C.  and  GUIDO-LEMUS, Daniel. A new jaguar (Panthera onca) record for central western Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2014, vol.85, n.4, pp.1295-1299. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.7550/rmb.38517.

We recorded new distribution records of jaguar (Panthera onca) for the region known as the Lower Balsas Basin in Michoacán. These records constitute the clearest evidence of the species presence on the Biosphere Reserve of Zicuirán-Infiernillo influence area. These records strengthen the hypothesis that Michoacán presents suitable areas for the jaguar presence. Is possible that the occurrance of jaguar is because the area is a corridor that allows mobility between populations in the mountains of western Mexico and Pacific slope.

Keywords : Felidae; Zicuirán-Infiernillo; camera trap; Balsas.
