Abstract

HIDALGO-MIHART, Mircea G. et al. First records of wild pigs in the Términos Lagoon area, Campeche, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2014, vol.85, n.3, pp.990-994. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.7550/rmb.38520.

We presented the first report of an introduced population of wild pigs in southeastern Mexico, specifically in Southwestern Laguna de Términos, Campeche. Using camera traps, we obtained 14 photographic records of wild pigs in 3 different sites during 2012 and 2013. The records included males, females and females with piglets. It is necessary to determine the effects on the local biodiversity of the presence of a wild pig population in order to determine the actions to manage this species on the region.

Keywords : introduced species; economical damages; pecari; wild boar.
