Abstract

SANCHEZ-GARCIA, Marisol; CIFUENTES-BLANCO, Joaquín  and  MATHENY, P. Brandon. Taxonomic revision of the genus Melanoleuca in Mexico and description of new species. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2013, vol.84, suppl., pp.111-127. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.7550/rmb.31569.

The goal of this work is to contribute to the knowledge of the genus Melanoleuca in Mexico providing new data about its geographic distribution and a detailed description of species. Specimens from Mexican and foreign herbaria were studied morphologically and phylogenetically performing a multi-gene sequence analysis. As a result, we describe 4 new species (M. communis, M. herrerae, M. jaliscoensis, and M. longisterigma), including line drawings, and provide a taxonomic key to 9 taxa of Melanoleuca that occur in Mexico. Considering the lack of information on this genus in Mexico and the fact that no detailed study had been previously developed, this work presents contributions to the systematics of Melanoleuca in North America and to the taxonomic knowledge of macromycetes in Mexico.

Keywords : Agaricales; geographic distribution; taxonomy; cystidia; rpb1.
