Abstract

MONTERRUBIO-RICO, Tiberio C.; CHARRE-MEDELLIN, Juan F.; VILLANUEVA-HERNANDEZ, Ali I.  and  LEON-PANIAGUA, Livia. New records of the kinkajou (Potos flavus) for Michoacán, establishing its northernmost distributional limit on the Pacific. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2013, vol.84, n.3, pp.1002-1006. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.7550/rmb.34419.

We provide 2 new records of the threatened kinkajou, Potos flavus for Michoacán state, which were obtained on the Arteaga municipality. The records constitute the only biological and photographic evidence that confirm the species presence on the state, as the existing information corresponded to anecdotic records. The new records were obtained along diurnal and nocturnal transects carried out during the period march 2010 to march 2011. The first record corresponds to a female that constitute the first specimen of the species from Michoacán that is deposited in a scientific collection. The second record corresponded to a set of photographic records obtained from a male located on tropical semideciduous forest. These 2 records are the northernmost records of the species on the Pacific.

Keywords : Arteaga; tropical deciduous forest; pine forest; arboreal; Procyonidae.
