Abstract

DELFIN-ALFONSO, Christian Alejandro et al. Addition to the records of Baird's Tapir (Tapirus bairdii) in Oaxaca, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2008, vol.79, n.2, pp.535-538. ISSN 2007-8706.

In February 2007, in the municipality of Santo Domingo Ingenio, Juchián District, Oaxaca state, we obtained the record of an individual of Baird's Tapir (Tapirus bairdii) from a photograph provided by the inhabitants of the site. The photograph was taken in 2005 during the rainy season, showing a dead adult tapir which was hunted at only 1.5 km north from Santo Domingo town. This is the most recent record of Baird-Tapir in the state of Oaxaca and suggests that this individual probably moved from the mountainous zone of Los Chimalapas towards the Itsmus of Tehuantepec.

Keywords : Baird's Tapir; Oaxaca; distribution; habitat; records.
