Abstract
CHAVEZ-GARCIA, M. Lourdes; DE PABLO-GALAN, Liberto and SAUCEDO-RAMIREZ, M. Pilar. Synthesis of intercalated Al-hydroxy-montmorillonite. J. Mex. Chem. Soc [online]. 2006, vol.50, n.1, pp.36-41. ISSN 1870-249X.
Montmorillonite from Durango, Mexico, of composition (Si3.88Al0.12)(Al1.41Mg0.59)O10(OH)2(Ca0.07Mg0.11Na0.28K0.06), surface area 42.07 m2g-1, d001 spacing 12.50 Å, and pore volume 0.002 cm3g-1, was intercalated with Al-hydroxy oligomer. The modified clay developed a surface area of 287.86 m2g-1, pore volume of 0.103 cm3g-1, and d001 spacing of 18.70 Å. Dehydration to 70 °C shift the d001 spacing to 17.29 Å; dehydroxylation started at 150 °C and by 300 °C had lost 1.92 w% and reduced the d001 spacing to 17.34 Å.
Keywords : Intercalated aluminum montmorillonite; clays; silicates; oligomer.
