Abstract

This essay attempts to explain and pinpoint the Security Strategy of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) in a broader context of the Security Crisis that plagues Mexico. The objective is to analyze both the logic that inspires the Security Agenda of the new administration, and the limitations that have emerged from the context of Insecurity and threaten to restrict the scope of the new Security Strategy. In the first part it is considered, in a succinct way, the exacerbation of insecurity and violence under the government of Enrique Peña Nieto. Then it is attended to analyze the evolution of the Security Strategy of the AMLO’s administration. The main initiatives of this strategy and its possible effects on the dynamics of insecurity and violence are discussed in this section. It will be shown how the pieces of the Security Agenda of AMLO were accommodating and adapting in a pragmatic way to the conditions of insecurity.
