Abstract

NAJERA GONZALEZ, Xavier. Criminology, criminal law and the use of electronic monitors. Points of epistemological convergence in the protection of human rights and public security. Rev. IUS [online]. 2014, vol.8, n.34, pp.101-124. ISSN 1870-2147.

The author arguments about the relationship between criminology and criminal law, from an epistemological point of view. He suggests that it is very important to unify the study on criminological facts and criminal law. This way, we can achieve a true public security. He also thinks that, without a better coordination of social-integration programs and methods to reduce economical polarity in the country, the situational prevention will never be complete. Finally, the author considers that, in order to reduce the use of prison in Mexico, we must support this policy, from a humanitarian perspective, based on the massive use of electronic monitors.

Keywords : Criminology; criminal law; situational crime prevention; electronic monitors.
