Abstract

Currently the Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) celebrates 20 years old and few official and academic forums have been made assessments from an economic and legal perspective. This article is not aimed at evaluating but analyzing some key points before, during and after, that is, the meaning of a Free Trade Agreement, economic conditions in Mexico in the nineties, the new concepts and legal types included in the Treaty particularly in Chapter 11 on foreign investments with the National Treatment and the right to expropriate, and finally some legal effects that persist later.
